Seagate Barracuda XT 2TB vs Western Digital 2TB Black - Page 2

with win 7 64bit it is possible to create a 3tb bootable drive, otherwise it will just repartition it to 2.19tb (i think) and the rest will be in a second partition. you will most likely see similar results.

western digital actually bought hitachi hard drive devision recently link... so really its the same company now...

Read your links, and from what I can see WD and Hitachi are the most reliable HDDs.

Also saw they stated something like "Hitachi 3TB might be too big for quite a few OS's", guess this would not be an issue with Win7 64-bit? They also have the Ultrastar 1TB and Dekstar 2TB which are a bit cheaper (but was mainly looking at a 2TB).

WD Black is old technology, slapping the title Black and giving it a 5 year warranty just to charge more for it. "It's expensive! It costs more! It MUST be better!" is the general mentality.

I would definitely choose the Hitachi 7K3000 7200rpm SATA3 over the WD Black. I don't see the reason why anyone should pay more for marketed drives. All consumer level drives fail the same to me.

From my links, Hitachi is the most reliable.

3TB is not bootable with the old BIOS, you will need a mobo with UEFI or Hybrid UEFI like the newer high end P67 Gigabyte motherboards. MSI P67/H67 boards all use UEFI.

Ultrastar is Hitachi's enterprise level drives. Deskstar is their consumer level drives.

Just like WD's RE4 is enterprise level and Caviar their consumer level.
Shhhhh!
