Asus RIIIF and i7 950 frustration. - Page 2

Thanks Idahoesurge your info has been very useful. I think im going to start off with a bit lower overclock maybe 3.4-3.6ghz so i will have to do some math. I think it would be easier if asus just gave us the multipliers..... but well anyways, my surprise was " and i know windows experience index is greatest tool" but even on stock speeds/auto in bios i got better calculation per second and memory rating on my p5q pro with q9400 @ 3.0ghz.. this really puzzled me. And temps worry me with a bigger overclock. With the hyper212+ dual fan push/pull and exhaust out the top im getting 34c idle and 53-58c prime95 load. I thought my temps would have been better. Think i may have used to much as5 may need to clean up reapply and re seat the cooler. Or maybe these temps are normal on i7 950. like i said im new but id like a bit lower temps if possible.
Any more info greatly appreciated,
Thanks and regards,
Nick

Hey, Hey, what do you know.. I decided leaving everything how you told me for clock speeds.. just bumped up the bclk to 140 now running @ 3.22 ghz yay officially at least a little overclocked.. now to check stability and temps and work on figuring out how to get my ram to 1600 @ 3.22..

Update: temps went up about 5-7c still holding under 60c though.. pondering a solution to getting this h212+ to cool my cpu better

Glad to here you are having some success!

As far as coolers, the best air coolers out there right now are the Thermalright Silver Arrow and the Noctua NH-D14. The D14 has fans that you can move up so it is better for ram with tall heat spreaders.

Your temps are not bad, but the higher your clock the higher your temps will go. You can try reseating the one you have with new TIM and if that does not work then get a better cooler.

Thanks again Idahoe.. again you have been very helpful in my learning process for this whole 1366 setup. As cash really isn't a issue I don't mind getting a new cooler I had just heard in many reviews that the h212+ was a very decent cooler especially for the price. I am familiar with the noctua my only concern is fitting it in my cm690 as the h212+ already comes fairly close to the case window. I was also looking at the corsair h50 and h70 but fear of a leak "which I have heard many people say" really makes me paranoid. My computer is my baby and i wouldn't risk hurting her with that possibility of a leak. How are your temps @ 4.44 with the silver arrow? I have a zalman cnps9700nt for my 775 rig i wish i knew where i could get the kit to mount it on the 1366 board i know theres one out there

OCCT CPU Auto test maxes out at 77C, highest temps on LinX is 87C.

I was suprised at the 10 degree difference between OCCT and LinX, but I guess that is the way it is. Having a stress test hit 87C is a little high for my comfort so I probably will not run LinX again, even though I have been told 90C on a 980X is okay.

Well I reseated the cpu cooler with a bit less AS5 and also swapped out my 2 top 120mm fans with 140mm. A couple degrees different at most but not significant. I ordered the kit to allow me to use my zalman cnps9700nt on 1366 boards. I have always had good luck with Zalman coolers that use the shiny nickel plated base. So hopefully it arrives soon...

Hey I also just noticed something really odd.. Whenever the windows experience index runs and it does the d3d tests my graphics card heat shoots way up and begins to make a high pitch whining noise. Any ideas?

To drop CPU Temps...Try a Different TIM and Upgrade the Fans on the 212....... AS5 Can take up 200 Hours to Cure.

Check out this 80- Tim review.....

http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.ph...&limitstart=12.

Could make the differnce your looking for.

I Switched from AS to Shin Etsu G751, since it requires no curing time

Ok so here is a puzzler. Im getting ready to swap out my cpu coolers and I decided before i did so I was going to try some bios tweaks before doing it. Now im running @ 3.82ghz and less voltage with a 2-2.5 degree DROP in cpu temp and 6 degree drop in mb temp. :/
