post #1 of 3
Thread Starter
I have a 3 screen EYE INFINITY setup.

atm i've an 5970, however i'm looking to upgrade to the new cards

i would love to go water but i've too much going on atm to learn.

two 6970 look good but two 6950 @ 6970 clocks look even better.

i've got an asus maxius board. so i was thinking why not buy three 6950 as this wood not be much more than two 6970s

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/254950
these have a custom cooler and the fans in my case are good?

any ideas before i spend this months wages?

will sell the 5970 so will hopfully get 200 ish for that its not old and has the custom cooler on it, just the ram bottle neck kill everything

if this dual bios edition that will unlock the shaders...then it would be worth it...but otherwise would prefer finding a reference editions(the ones with the AMD logo near the PCI-E slot interface) and use those instead...

However you could also just buy two 6950s(2 GB versions), unlock them and crossfire them and see how it works for you...no need to automatically go for the trifire if two will do just fine for you... If you need more GPU power THEN buy the third one...

if you're thinking of getting 2 6970's or two 6950 so you can flash it to 6970's, I suggest just getting the 6990?

Not sure if there's a waterblock for 6990's yet, but im pretty sure they're on their way.

From the online shops here in UK,
6970 = £290 x 2 = £580
6990 = x2 6970 = £540
Edit 2: 6950 = £ 210 x2 = £420
Just add another £100'ish *depending on the brand* and you're all set for a 6990, if you can push your budget that is ^_^

so at the end of the day, getting the 6990 is cheaper and better in terms of performance... **From what i've read, please somebody correct me if im wrong.

Edit: saw the words watercooling so i thought you're planing on going WC my apologies.
But i still suggest getting the 6990. ^_^
