Looking at a new mouse

Thread Starter

I'm looking at upgrading my mouse. I just started PC gaming just recently, and decided a new mouse is in order. Right now, I have a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse -

. I use a palm grip, but I think that's more by the mouse's design (I do believe I had more of a claw grip with my old mouse). Anyways, I've been reading the forum for a week and I'm still undecided. I stopped at my local Best Buy and looked at them, but unfortunately they don't have any on display. I'm willing to spend up to $100 on the right one.

What would you recommend?

the Logitech G500 is an excellent mouse, and doesn't cost too much.

Razers are very good. They look nice and perform like a champ. If u have money to spend, definitely choose Razer.
However, Gigabyte raise my interest with their new gaming mouse showed at CeBIT 2011. You can give it a look.

The G500 is the one I'm leaning towards. Sounds like the best bang for your buck. But, the GX9 and DeathAdder seem like solid options as well.

I Highly recommended you to be sure how do you holds your mouse - plam/claw/fingertip. - its the key for choosing the most comfortable mouse for your hand.

If you hold in the plam way - I'll suggest the DA black edition, it costs low than 100 but you need to spend more to modified it - put a feets on the default and also put a piece of paper/magic tape in the sensor hole beacause of the LoD in the mouse is High.

(LoD=Lift off distance which is the measurement of how high you can lift the mouse while it still reads the surface and moves the cursor/crosshair. You want a lift off distance as low as possible to avoid unwanted movement while you lift and reposition the mouse while gaming.)

If you likes Hard Surface go for Logitech G500/Mionix Naos 5000/Qpad 5K with 9/4HD/DESTRACTUR.

I also suggest you to wait for the PureTrak Valor which comes in the first week of april, its sounds the best on market, and also looks comfortable.

If you decide that you Claw Grip user - fixed version of Razer Abyssus is a way to go,
but I recommended to you to wait for fixed hardware's CM spawn.
If you likes Hard Surfaces, go for Xai.

I have had mine for about two years now, and it has served me very well.

These threads always become "Post your mouse!" threads. OP I wouldn't take anyone's suggestion in here unless they back it up with stats and explain what those stats mean and how they affect you. Then I'd wait for a couple other guys to approve of those claims.

That's why I tried to be as detailed as possible. I'm using a palm grip right now, my old mouse is a decent fit for me (comfort wise), but I want something better. I have fairly big hands, so that should be taken into account. The G500 and DeathAdder are the most appealing price wise. Are there any good reviews comparing the two? That might help.
