Need advice on what to upgrade next

Thread Starter
Hello,

I've been doing some research, trying to decide on which computer parts to upgrade next. I will be doing an upgrade in the next few months, if I can decide/get advice on whether I really need to upgrade yet.

Currently considering:

CPU upgrade - Waiting for Bulldozer - a good idea? Or do I even need to upgrade my current CPU that badly?

Video card upgrade - Pretty happy for now. Would like to move to 1080p monitor later, which may require something better. I currently game at 1680x1050. I would like to stay under $275 for the video card. I would like to play Battlefield 3 nicely when it comes out. Looking at a 6870 for now. NVIDIA seems overly expensive, but I would still consider a card from them.

SSD - Kind of doubtful about current gen SSDs. Most seem overly expensive and some are experiencing high failure rates. Not sure about how much an SSD would help my system, other than to just speed up load times.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Yea better to wait for the Bulldozers series. GPU is still fast, but you can upgrade to a HD6870, also though the DirectX 11 support. SSD will give your system a boost, like starting up programs and the boot from your PC. But they are expensive now yes.

I would update your motherboard. Pick up one of the newer AM3 boards like say, the M4A89GTD PRO/USB3, and you'll pick up AM3+ capabilities, while still being able to use your current CPU, which isn't in dire need of an upgrade right now.

Motherboard would be my first choice, GPU would be my second, and pick up a Bulldozer when they come out down the line.
