Best Bang-for-buck HDD 1-2TB

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I have the setup in my sig, currently with a 128 GB SSD and a 1 TB Hitachi Deskstar. The Hitachi is about 70% full, and I was wondering what I could look into getting that would be the best bang-for-the-buck HDD from 1-2TB (internal).

Thanks!

I always go with WD and their Green drives for mass storage.

If you mean bang as in performance, though, the Green's aren't meant for that. I know the Caviar Black's are speedy but I don't know about the F4's. I thought they were a bit of a step down in terms of speed from the F3's.

And 1TB and 2TB is a big difference as well. Samsung F3 1TB's are probably the fastest you can get for a good price.

They are fast enough for me and most likely beat the wd green

From a 5400rpm drive?!?! Excellent performance for the $$ I think that is only slightly slower than my 500gb F3. Samsung is the way to go for price and performance
post #7 of 13
Because they cram the 2tb onto 3 platters the density of information is so much higher therefore allowing higher throughput 5400rpm never hit 30c even during extended read and writes..

Overall great drive and since they have applied the firmware fix there is no need to do that with current bought drives..

Best bang for your buck, with preformance in mind...........samsung F3 1TB drives in my opinion are the answer. I have several and they run cool and quiet.

I bought my F4 for storage too, but if your bench them both the F4 actually is faster than the F3 1TB by a small margin
