lol probably could hit up some surplus somewhere and get a box full of 10gb hard drives it really doesnt take much to run linux and a real hard drive would make life simple
Kinda meh now...

I did exactly what you did, had a 4gb flash drive and installed Ubuntu on it (persistent) and 3 folding clients.
Had to use that for about a month while I did some data recovery on my drives.

Though if you can buy a cheap drive it would be easier, if your on a budget just use the flash drive.

I run a few Linux boxes off of USB sticks and the rest off of network boot. Works great.

You can probably keep the install size to 2GB or less running the CLI version of Ubuntu or any generic distro. You don't need X for folding right?

well what he was talkinga bout was your xserver stuff, generally just refering to your gui if your folding software is capable of just running ina command line, you can do a very stripped down install without gdm/kdm/xdm and a lot of other gui stuff, and save quite a lot of disc space... you dont just strip out a gui, you strip out all the tools that require a gui (quite a lot really)

honestly to do that, id just do a net install of my favorite distro
Kinda meh now...
