Yea but some pumps are intended to be run full bore. The Rasa kit pump for example is, but it is cooled by being submerged in the coolant. And there is no scenario I can imagine where the coolant in the reservoir would get hot enough to cease cooling the pump adequately.

Something like a 35X OTOH is only cooled by air around it and the coolant passing through it, so throttling it down is easier on it, as it runs cooler.

I doubt the p500 is build to run at full speed and keep on going fine
as it is a very cheep pump
still it has surprised me to this day how it lasted 1 and 3/4 years running 24/7 at full speed
and was still working fine when I put it in my 3dfx system

as I herd of them dieing after 6 moths so much
must have a golden bach or something

I'm currently using speedfan as the software tool, but some motherboards like Gigabyte have even better tools like Easytune. Easytune will let you ramp up and down over a temperature range, so it could be very smooth and progressive that way.

The Silence is golden...and the pump run nice and cool.

The number 1 reason I watercool is for high performance at low noise levels, and dynamic speed loading is a huge benefit to noise.

Awesome! Great explanation -now in my next build I am using a Sunbeam rheosmart as well, would it work fine plugging mcp350's into it to handle the ramp up and ramp downs or should I try and find a different solution(or just purchase better pumps)?
