Fridge for cooling?

Thread Starter
I have a friend who uses the workings of a fridge in his pc with some success.
So got me thinking why not use a small fridge drill a hole in the side for all the cables and throw the rig inside?
What do you think?

If it is a TEC powered fridge, it might work. If it is a compressor powered fridge, no it will not. If it is TEC powered though, it will not be very energy efficient at all.

it wont work as the fridges compressor isnt designed to run 24/7. I believe your friend is using a phase change unit which uses stronger AC compressors

What I am suggesting is to put the rig into the fridge. Only a thought.

Will work for a day, then the compressor will fry and said fridge will become an oven with a running PC inside. DO NOT DO IT

Check the phase change cooling section of the forum if you are wanting -50C under load temps

I have thought about this before myself. The only plausible idea I can come up with would be to use an industrial refrigerator. Like something you would find in a market. You notice that they have fans in them and are made to run almost constantly. They are made of better quality parts that you can repair verses a cheap refrigerator that is disposable.

I have a friend with a small industrial refrigerator that I have tried to buy from him. It has a fan, double pane window in front. Says Miller light on it. He is being stubborn. I offered him $100 and to give him another refrigerator. He is still being stubborn. He got the damn thing for free! I will continue to work on getting it or one like it to build a pc inside of it.

Wow, just wow, talk about too much cooling lol, wouldn't a fridge produce condensation? which eventually will zap/pop/boom kill your PC?

Anyhow for everyday use, its just not logical, Expense wise
