1998 > Crysis 2

Might & Magic VI, a game from 1998, has a primitive software implementation of deferred lighting (multiple light sources, glowing projectiles generate light), and therefore has more advanced lighting than Crysis 2, which uses a static light map.

Might & Magic VI

Note the light source from the player's torch, the torches on the wall, and the explosion. The fireball that caused the explosion also acts as a light source, until it impacts.

M&M6 deferred lighting looked like crap, was indoors only only supported like ten sources at a time, and there were no shadows. But it was better than nothing. A game released in 2011 should have better graphics in ALL respects than a game released in 1998.

I'm still looking for the screencap, but Crysis has no deferred lighting, only simulated deferred lighting ("deferred decals") that only work for two or three light sources at most. So in a screen cap with a shower of sparks and a glowing weapon and projectiles, none of those things acts as a light source; you only have the static light map and faked deferred lighting from one or two pre-placed light sources.

But why doesn't Crysis 2 have deferred lighting?

Crysis 2 is a console port. Therefore, I expect it to play like a kiddie's first game he ever coded in his parent's basement during the Clinton Administration.

Nah. M&M6 deferred lighting looked like crap, only supported like ten sources at a time, and only applied to the environment, not to the 2D sprites that you were fighting, and there were no shadows.

But still. A game released in 2011 should have better graphics in ALL respects than a game released in 1998.
I think you mean M&M 3 or 4
HOMM 6 is still to be released

There's Might & Magic, that had 9 parts
and there's a branch of it that evolved
Heroes of Might and Magic that now has 5 parts and the sixth to come.

No, Might & Magic, not Heroes of Might & Magic. Might & Magic was the original RPG franchise that started in 1986, went 3D in 1998, then crapped itself and died after the stunningly awful ninth installment in 2002. #4 and 5 are the best of the 2D ones, and #6 and 7 are the best of the 3D ones. I've been playing #6 the past week or two out of nostalgia.

Heroes of Might & Magic is the turn based strategy game offshoot.

You can't implement AA with deferred lighting. At least not easily. See: UT3 engine, stalker games pre-DX10, etc.
