Lol yeah trust me I felt like an idiot. I usually disconnect my backup drive when doing installs, but just skipped it this time. Since my RAID setup was so close in size to the backup I didnt even look at what I was doing.

Yeah just woke up and found 24000+ files that I need to sort through.

I will update again after I figure out if all the info is there.

Update 3/28:

Okay, so not only did I format my storage drive, but it seems one of the drives in my RAID now has bad sectors. I had a feeling because my Vista install was acting funny, but now its confirmed using chkdsk. I already ordered some new drives and will see if I can RMA the bad one(s).

Recuva was about 90-95% successful. It couldnt find my Steam backup folder or a recent backup I made for a friend. There were also a bunch of folder/file names that were lost, but its easy enough to go through and rename them.

I ran testdisk, but wasnt very successful with that.

I downloaded the free versions for getdataback and easeus recovery. Both of these programs require payment to actually retrieve your data. The easeus was cheaper so I started with their free demo first.

Easeus data recovery found all of my folders and files with all the proper folder structures and file names. I decided it was worth the price.

Now I just need to get my new HDDs and I will be able to copy all my old files.

Thanks for everyones help and support. I definitely wont be making this mistake again.

One only needs to disconnect other hard drives if they aren't going to be paying attention. I've been working with PC's with hard drives since they were released about 30 years ago and I have yet to format the wrong drive or partition. That's thousands of drives with the majority in 2+ drive systems. If one isn't going to take care and pay enough attention to not format the wrong drive they shouldn't be formatting them period. Of course it helps to give drives and partitions descriptive Labels to tell them apart, but it still just boils down to paying attention because if you aren't there's no guarantee that you will disconnect the correct drives.
