Choose a music sound card for me

Thread Starter
I couldn't decide as to what to buy, so I will ask you guys. I want a sound card that is 150 bucks or less, and one that will greatly improve the quality of my music from onboard. I honestly don't really care too much about the audio for gaming, but it would be nice if I could get some perks in that department as well. Perhaps, if possible, I want a card that lets me record audio more clearly and make it sound a bit more professional. I have a Logitech Z-623 by the way.

The Asus Xonar DX is probably the best bang for your buck as far as listening to music goes. If you want more than that however I'd go with the Xonar ST/X, the only difference is one uses PCI express and the other PCI.

Other cards I'd recommend for music are HT Omega Claro series.

The Auzentech X-Fi Bravura is also a great music card. You should be able to pick one up for less than $150 and it's got user replaceable opamps so you can customize the sound signature to level not possible with other cards. It's also got a great headphone amp if you need that. For gaming it supports EAX 4.0 and OpenAL so it's not bad for that either.

get a USB DAC (external sound card) if you need to do recordings you'll want something from m-audio, line6, or from similar companies, check guitar and audio stores in your area and take a look at what they might have.

The best sound card by far is the Xonar series. The Xonar DX or STX are the best. However, your logitech speakers aren't that great. To take full advantage of the Xonar series I would recommend the speakers cost at least $300 a pair. Otherwise get a lower end sound card.

Asus Xonar Series and HT Omega Claro Series. However, if you want pure quality, you need a DAC/Amp, DAC and Amp separate, or a receiver (basically a DAC and Amp).

Asus Xonar DX (PCI-Express) or Xonar D1 (PCI), there is a $20 mail in rebate, if you buy during March.
I paid $87.50 for my Xonar DX, that price is before the $20 mail in rebate.

Your speakers are crappy. Don't get anything more than a DX.
