Can't use that fix. When I check the 470, the screen goes gray.

lol ah k well i dont have 120hz i just kinda sent you there to 'test' but it works for dual monitors.

i think for 120hz, the nvidia statement of problems with low mem speeds is actually true it seems you are stuck at high idle speeds unless you switch down to 60hz. unfortunately you will not be able to fix it.

an alternative if you use AB you can do what i used to do and set a 2d profile and push everything as low as it goes and set the 3d profile to normal. this does not drop the temps much tho but its the best you can do @120hz.

sorry i couldnt help more but ty for testing the dual fix on 120hz

Dropping the monitor to 60hz worked. I'll just do that when in windows from now on. Will bring it back to 120hz for gaming.

Drops from 405mhz to 51mhz, but actually doesn't have a huge drop in temp. Not sure about how much more power it's using, though.

the difference isnt huge if you have good cooling but i know it was significant on my GTX470 but on my new 570 ... not so much but i still like knowing its working how its advertised

they really should tell people about 120hz and dual monitor incompatibility when it comes to power saving somewhere. it would prevent alot of confusion.

Only caused it to drop 3 degrees. Went from 39 to 36. Think I might just leave it at 120hz, and drop it to 60hz when I walk away from the computer.

I know this is an old post.. my sys was having the same problem with not idling down after reboot.. 7970 sapphire flashed to ghz edition.. 3 monitors or even when running 1 does the same thing.. but then I go to device manager and disable the card then enable it.. I get WIN32.exe has stopped working .. so I tell it to close and the card works fine until I reboot again... can't see to find a fix.. tried reinstalling drivers and even different ones and nothing changes.. win7 64bit all latest updates on everything. gigabyte X58A-UD7 with i7 980 xtreme 32gigs XMS3 ram.. 1200watt BFG PSU WD velociraptor 600 sata III I still haven't found a fix yet.. but I will be upgrading to a SSD soon and will try a fresh install of win.. and hope this fixes it..
