SSD N00b: C300 Installation Help

Thread Starter
Well I'm happy to say I finally switched over to SSD. Today I got the 64gb C300 and a 1tb Spinpoint f3. I have not installed it yet as I'm a complete noob.

Should I follow:

http://www.overclock.net/ssd/929553-...p-secrets.html

or

http://www.overclock.net/ssd/664738-...secondary.html

and is there ANYTHING else I need to do before even installing windows on it, pretty much I need it broken down Barney style as I don't want to mess up anything, do I need to update the c300? Where do I start sigh...

Yes, it's the firmware. If you have 001 you must update to 002 before you update to 006.

do I have to? how do I update the firmware? How do I know what firmware I have?

The firmware version should be printed on your drive. I just got a C300 and it came with the latest firmware, 006. If you have this version, you should be good to go. Is the SSD going to be your OS drive?

THANKS! I just checked and it is the latest firmware woo

yes it will be my OS drive and the spinpoint f3 will be my storage drive, both of them are new and I haven't touched it.

This is my plan of attack

- Connect SSD in my first Sata 3 slot and disconnect any other HDD
- GO into bios to make sure AHCI is enabled
- Install Windows Ultimate 64 and update all necessary files
- Once done, connect the spinpoint f3
- Follow this guide http://www.overclock.net/ssd/664738-...secondary.html
- Connect my OLD HDD and move files from OLD HDD to Spinpoint f3

how does that plan of attack sound?
