If its some "fancy unnecessary" as you say then why even bother with toothpaste? Try mounting your cooler without TIM and see how well it works.

Well the point of thermal paste is to fill the microscopic gaps for thermal conductivity between the base plate and surface of both cooler and CPU. If you have a perfectly even lapped finish on both cooler and CPU making full contact with each other, there's really no need for pastes. That youtube video basically is an exception to the rule of requiring a paste.

This is funny... people are fighting to be right over a maximum difference of .75 degrees. They are all great thermal compounds.

Some have other advantages though. Some are easier to apply than others, some are conductive and some aren't, some are cheaper, some have shorter/longer burn-in periods. It's not that 2 dimensional.

You must be referring to the thread where someone claimed that fish paste and Vegemite were awesome TIMs and totally pwned all the top products...

I, for one, have my doubts.

It is NOT conductive. Stop spouting nonsense...

I dont know why people go around saying it is conductive when it's capacitive.

Also, get mx-2 because of the need for no curing time.

i would try sidewindercomputers as they have an option for first class mail to save u on shipping.
