This isn't anything new for a RES. It's been done before. You will need one of those wide top bottles.

My RES is a 1-gallon glass pickle jar. The tubes go in through the top. A glass Mason Jar would do the job as well.

As for the glass RES, it keeps the temps a little cooler than any acrylic RES.

Now, if he asked if anyone can BREW beer with a WCing cooling loop with a glass bottle RES, that has yet to be proven.

Well getting back to the important part, the bottle. It's actually a good choice if you use a colored bottle they help reduce bacteria grown from excess light. As far as cutting you don't need to, just get a rubber stopper with 2 holes in it, one for in and one for out.
