I plan on using hardware virtualization to create virtual machines for testing a new website, so yes, I need all the core I can get.

That must be one hell of a website, you barely need any resources to run Apache/SQL/PHP, would be a lot more concerned about bandwidth from your house...

agreed, wait on next gen from the enthusiast level of Ivy. should blow away the current P55/P67/X58 generation. Get a crazy fast 240GB+ SSD. (intel 510 series or whatever). 6870 CF or 580s. Wait...wait...wait. So worth the wait.

Well Im sure you can squeeze a nicer/larger case in your budget! 650D or 700D would be a recommendation from me.

Honostly, your rig is no where near out-of-date so waiting for Bulldozer or, if you want to stick with intel, Ivy Bridge. Ivy will run of 22NM architechture but it is pressumed for next year. To me, this year just begun so you cant wait for too long... otherwise we'll wait forever. BD is ASSUMED to be June 11th-ish.

Anyways, the Sandy Bridge chips and the 990x/980x chips are best right now. Definately go SSD and either get one solid card, for single/double display, or get SLI/CF for 3+ displays.

Have you tried with your current setup?
I am sure it can handle it...
