XArmor U9 launched

Thread Starter
So it looks like the XArmor U9 just hit Amazon.

I got one of these for product testing. Mine's a prototype so may be a little different.

Basically this board is an ultra basic mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX brown switches. If I recall, the only special feature was going to be NKRO and I don't know if that made it into the final version. My prototype doesn't have NKRO, but I was told that was just because they do early prototyping with single layer PCBs to save on R&D costs, and NKRO requires a double layer PCB. They may have changed their minds though.

It's fairly sturdy, and I like MX browns. The price isn't too bad at $80. I'd say it's a good competitor for the Razer BlackWidow, especially if it has NKRO.

So:
- MX browns
- Steel plate construction
- May or may not be NKRO
- Compatible with XArmor wrist rest, one not included
- Laser+infill key printing

HAH. I just search amazon for "cherry mx brown" 32m after you posted this.

I originally bought an Adesso w/cherry mx blue switches. I think I'm going to return it and get the XArmor U9 instead. I also seen Amazon has the XArmor U9BL-S which has Cherry MX Brown's with LED.

Oh. It's also kind of funny that I found this link from Google only 32m after you posted it =)

Finally, some competition for the Black Widow. At that price, who knows, might get one.

The same price as a Unicomp with boring switches, keycaps that will probably fade if you look at them too long, and a vendor well known for QA issues. Yawn.

good, more competition and options for mechanical switches is great news smile.gif

its awesome how these are priced pretty much directly in line with the two Black Widow models but offer a different switch type

It should be have also the PCB mounted switch, much easier then the BWU to experiment with different type of switches and/or leds.

Poor soldering leading to switch failure, loose fitting keycaps, some other stuff.

The Razer keyboard is made by the same OEM, which possibly explains some of the reports of Blackwidows suddenly dying.
