Help With iTunes

Okay guys, I have a very specific that I was hoping someone might be able to help me with.

I have all of my music stored in my iTunes library. iTunes keeps track of total play counts. What I want is a way to keep count of weekly play counts. In other words, I want to find some way to extract weekly play count information and keep it stored in another file on my computer and update it weekly to produce weekly updates for play counts.

So basically I was looking for anyone that might be able to help me:

(A) Where/how the iTunes play counts are stored on the computer

(B) A way of reading this data if possible and writing a small program to update the data each week.

Thanks in advance. Any help would be wonderful!

Play count data is stored inside 'iTunes Library.itl' file the default music folder.
I use Last.fm to keep track of my play count, check it out here: http://www.last.fm/user/SZayat

Thanks a lot! It appears as if this should do exactly what I wanted, if I'm understanding the description on the site correctly. I knew of last.fm, but I didn't realize how it worked.

Thank you!
