New Sandy Bridge Build

Thread Starter
Long story short, my first post on here a while back was what computer to build 1k budget. I recently bought a 27''imac and liked it a lot but returned it due to the new ones coming out in a month or so. Was planning on getting the sandy bridge imac but to be honest it was just too slow, especially for 1850$'s. So now I am back to thinking about building a pc instead. It will be used primarily for photo/video editing. Photoshop, avid, etc. Im thinking at the least 8gb of ram, want two monitors 23-24''s im thinking, ssd for os and whatever else it is useful for, haf x case, budget with shipping at the max is 2k. I dont want to spend anymore than that. I need everything from keyboard and mouse to OS and monitors. I know it is not necessary but my computer i build 6 years ago or so was watercooled and i would like this one to be as well. xspc 750? Any and all input and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

2k is a pretty tight budget to squeeze in 2 monitors, SSD, and the OS.

2 Monitors: $400 (assuming you want HD)
80GB primary SSD: $150
500GB secondary HDD: $40
Windows 7: $100
8GB ram: $90
Intel i5 sandy bridge: $200
Haf x case: $200

That's over half your budget.

expect to pay another $40 for a power supply, $200-$400 for GPU, $50-$100 for mobo, $30 for DVD drive, 100-300 for watercooling, thermal paste, and other parts. Am I missing anything?

Of course you can do all of this cheaper if you go with AMD. I am not sure if you had your heart set on Intel.

I was under the impression the i7 2600k cpu was the one i wanted for the stuff i will be doing...Would like at least 1 tb for hard drive, usb 3.0, 8 or 16gb of ram, 2 led-lcd monitors. Im thinking its gonna have to be 2k for the computer and 500 for the monitors is more realistic.

there are some really fine s775 going for very little now unless you have to have the latest and newest.

you would be well within your budget and even bring the girlfriend on a nice night out.

Got all my stuff today and put it all together. Couple problems i have run into so far...Where is the best place to go learn about what the best settings are in bios for the various things. Cpu temp is 39-40c, not sure what normal is. When i try to install windows on my ssd it wouldnt let me because it plugs in via usb.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148361

is there some kind of adapter or something to make it go to sata 3 instead of usb??? Thanks

Eh if the link that you posted is the ssd that you ordered, then would check the box part number vs you invoice to make sure you received the correct item. Because the linked drive is a backwards compatable SATA 3. Also I think there may be a bios setting that needs to be hated to make the ssd as the primary drive.

Other then that I don't know. I am still picing my new rig together in the ssd is in transit.

I figured out the SSD, 2 of the bays in the case have the plug in built in so you just mount the ssd and slide it in. Im on the computer at the moment just installing all the drivers, etc.
