Gaining knowledge in FSB and hyper transport.

in my pursuit to gain ultimate wisdom in the modern end computer.. i must ask or come to understand a few things. any answer is greatly appreciated.


so lets say i open the bios on any given AMD atx motherboard.

i see a 200mhz front bus clock rate.

and i see on the technically specifications of the mother board,
the 'hyper transport' is set around 2600mhz.

am i correct if i say 200 x 13 =2600mhz

so the cpu and front bus are working together to send 13 times the data rate in one clock cycle right?

(if no, please correct me)

if that is or is not the case.
why are intel motherboards rated at 1066mhz or whatever that particular
mb is rated at? are they already stating the 'effective' clock cycle,
or is the front bus actually operating at that speed.

any run down, answer, or breif statement is appreciated.

(and i write this forum for future reference for anyone who might
wander in here, via google or whatever, wondering the same thing)

Keep the HT around 2000(200x10) and get the CPU-NB as high as it will go. This is for the best performance.

it was originally set on 2000mhz.
The cpu can take between 2600- 2800. Then you need to bump the CPU-NB voltage between 1.35-1.45v to keep it stable and the only way to find out if it is stable is to run prime95 or LinX. The max CPU-NB voltage is 1.55v.

Test shows the best setting for the HT is 2000. The higher it goes the worst the performance. But the higher the CPU-NB is the better the performance.

ah i got ya. so the cpu is rated for a 2600mhz nb-cpu clock
and is autoed to 2000mhz.

so pushing it to 2800mhz is considered an over clock and a huge
increase in overall performance .

Here is a basic OC Guide for you.
1) Max cpu voltage is 1.55v.
2) Keep temp under 55c.
3) NB frequency take it as high as you can take it and stable.
4) CPU/NB voltage max 1.55v. This the voltage for NB Frequency.
5) Keep HT around 2000.
6) Keep memory close or under to stock speed.
