Waterfox 38.1.0 Release

What’s New in 38.1.0 (Waterfox)?

  • Fixed an issue that caused Waterfox not to run on XP and Vista computers
  • Fixed an issue that caused websites such as Google Music and Speedtest.net to not load due to having dom.webcomponents.enabled set to true
  • Fixed an issue where the user agent did not append Waterfox to the end
  • Fixed a regression causing JavaScript performance to be lower than usual
  • Disabled Pocket by default due to its closed source nature and availability of already existing plugin

What’s New in 38.1.0 (Firefox)?

  • Clean formatting for articles and blog posts with Reader View
  • Share the active tab or window in a Hello conversation
  • Fixed a race condition that would cause Firefox to stop painting when switching tabs
  • Fixed graphics performance when using the built-in VGA driver on Windows 7

Known Issues

  • Responsive images do not update when the enclosing viewport changes
  • Some systems suffer from memory leakages in certain scenarios
  • Speedtest.net may not render for certain systems

How do I get this update?

  • It should be available immediately and can be applied by clicking the Menu Icon > ? > About Waterfox or
  • Download from the front page

Wonder if it's also SSE2 optimized - if so I'll give it a go smile.gif

In the next build I'll be enabling the following optimisations:
  • MMX
  • SSE2
  • SSE3
There is also the option to add SSE4.1 but lots of users still use AMD processors and old Core 2 Duo CPUs, such as me biggrin.gif

Wow, that is awesome biggrin.gif I think I'll be switching to waterfox pending 64-bit plugin support for 1 or 2 things such as Silverlight that I will probably find easily!
What's awesome is firefox 4 is already fast enough but I can imagine this would be a lot faster

Awesome! wheee.gif will be downloading and importing my firefox profile soon!
And meh, I don't visit many sites (if at all) that use Silverlight yet anyway

EDIT: I get an MSVCR100.dll is missing from your computer error on startup. Trying to fix this error myself now by d/l-ing the DLL and placing it in the program folder...

Sorry my mistake. Updated the thread with the missing file required.

Nearly forgot to launch the install - this is certainly much much faster! Even adapted to my Firefox profile upon first startup which is great, so I can revert to regular firefox in case of issues. I'm definitely liking it so far wheee.gif

I'm going to put a link to Waterfox in my "Optimizing Firefox" article (see sig)
