Do you have a partition to install Windows on and see if that clears the problem?

do you have C states disabled?

"An important note to keep in mind is that disabling CStates can considerably affect HD performance ( especially SATA6G ) Please keep this in mind when going for the highest level overclocks."

I just disabled them right now to test... Btw, you have a system pretty much identical to mine. EDIT: PROBLEM IS STILL PRESENT If all else fails i will try a fresh install of windows.

Conclusion:
- Problem is caused by the NIC usb controller crashing.
- It causes system hangs / crashes - Outlined by ASUS.
Issue has been fixed with the new 1502 bios.
NOTE that the bios has not been released on the support site and currently a very few amount of people that have purchased their boards recently have it. Additionally, this issue was present on other boards such as the P8P67 Pro and has been resolved with new bios.
EDIT: See below for progress. The issue is still present with the new 1502 BIOS.

Please advise if it is working for you. I still have the same lockups problem. But it is much shorter now, ~15 sec. But it is still annoying. I am going to swap the sata cable and see what happens. EDIT: I noticed that the optical drive was plugged into the Marvel 6GB/s Controller and that controller doesn't support optical drives, no wonder all my burnt discs came out bad. Put that one in the Intel 3GB/s controller, also switched the hard drive to the Marvel Port. Doing some testing now.

Update: So i still have this issue. Reset the bios again today. Going to run Memtest and see if any of my chips are faulty. If they are OK then i will have to do a clean install of windows. At last resort, RMA the board (dont want to go there). EDIT: I have changed the ram speed / timings and voltage to AUTO (which is 1366mhz even though the ram it self is a 1600 kit). So its running a little slower and at 1.5v. Doing some testing now. EDIT 2: So the problem still exists, i tested the ram at 1.5v@1366MHz ... also tested the ram at 1.675v @ 1600MHz. Used MemTest and it passed on both settings. Now, i can rule out the ram. It could be the board, hard drive, gpu or windows. I'm going to clean install windows this weekend.

mikeseth: Thanks for keeping the thread updated with your solutions. I have the EXACT same problem. I RMA'd the board and I thought the other one was working better, but twice yesterday I had the same problem. Hard freeze...can be when it's idle or even when I'm using it just playing music. The power lights on the keyboard/mouse go out and sounds stop...everything. I'm going to do a clean install and skip the ASUS drivers and hope for the best!
