SSDs could be classes as more 'reliable' than mech HDDs as they are less prone to shocks and physical wear (they are also very noticeably faster and improve the snappiness of the whole system). But realistically both technologies should be pretty reliable.

I will go with the samsung F3.
I don't think there is anything to do with my setup. I took this HD that is failing out of my system old system, and it's always made a very funny clicking noise when it starts. and I have to unplug the SATA cable in/out. for it to work. and recently got spin-time errors.

I have just purchased the F3 500GB from scan as we're speaking.

Thanks for your suggestion, I also looked up a benchmark off the F3 disks, around 141MB/S is that correct?

I'd say myself, WD are one of the strongest and more reliable make of hard drives I have seen.

yeah it's about 140MB/s max.
