from GTX295 to 6870! is it worth it to DOWNgrade? - Page 2

Not a huge downgrade though but worth it IMO but as the others have suggested you could get a 6950/70 which would be more of an upgrade.

If your budget is $250, then I'd say go for a 6950 or 560.

so me getting a 6870 would be sidegrade just like yours from 295 to 6870 would be
i can play every game, no doubt, but there is that little bit missing for 24'' monitor to run all games maxed perfectly
so i would suggest 6950 since you won't be too happy with 6870 if you are not happy with 295
it's not that I'm not happy with the performance of my card! still I'll take your advice btw how's the temps with 5850?

GTX295 is sorta like a GTX480 which is way faster than 6870......this will be a downgrade.........if upgrading from a GTX295, don't get anything slower that a 5870

I would agree with you if many games utilize SLI configurations! but a sad..miserable fps "as a high-end card" and nothing changes when enabling-disabling the SLI? the only game I would miss the GTX295 "true" performance is crysis and bad company 2 otherwise it's an underclocked GTX260

A 6870 should easily be able to contend with a GTX 295, Heck the extra VRAM will make quite a difference if you like running games with MSAA

Not to mention a 1Ghz core clocked one should be faster

5870 & 6870 are neck and neck in most games from most reviews I have seen...

Yup, the advantage of the 6870 is lower power comsumption and longer driver support. You can't have more than 2 in CF though.
