different core temps

Thread Starter
I just installed a Cooler Master 212+ on my i5 2500K CPU. I notice that now and even with the stock cooler 1 core, the 3rd one is significantly warmer than the others and another one, the 1st one is significantly cooler. The other 2 are in the middle. Between the 1st and 3rd cores there could be as much as 6ºc difference. The first core is always the coolest and the 3rd the warmest. Is that normal? Using Real Temp to get temperatures. Thanks.

Do they have different loads? My C2D can be 1-4 degrees off between different cores. Of course, the more a core is used, the more heat it will generate.

Are you referring to idle temps? It should be lower than +-6C difference. Try reseating the heatsink and also TIM application is the key.

If you're getting the same readings in temp difference from the stock cooler them maybe it's your chip. Run sensor test and see if all cores are even moving or check if that core with coolest temp even goes up.

Also try Core Temp and check if the temp differences varies - doubt if it will but I would still try it.

Thanks guys for the replies. Yes I was speaking of idle temps. I just installed Core Temps software that show all 4 cores are being accessed so I guess they are all OK. Also the core temps seem to be closer now. I just installed the new cooler yesterday. Maybe the thermal compound is settling or something. Anyway it seems to be better so I'm not going to worry about it.
