1.65v and Sandybrdge???

Thread Starter
Can you use triple channel 1.65v RAM in a Sandybridge board? Or does one have to go out and buy new memory as well?
Thanks.

During my research I have read that running @ 1.65v in a SB build will eventually burn out the memory controller. True?

I think that's for the long term, which can not be seen yet.
The Intel spec was 1,58V as max I believe?

On the QVL sheet from my motherboard they list many sets of RAM at 1.6 - 1.65v as compatible RAM. The only thing I have seen is that the SB mobo's are set to run RAM at 1.5v default. A lot of the SB boards are designed to handle overclocking. If pushing 1.65v would burn out the controller I would think we would have already heard something about this.

Using 2 or 4 sticks would run as dual channel, correct?

You should have no problem. I haven't heard anything about 1.65v ram being incompatible with SB.

And a triple channel kit means that there's just three identical sticks of ram.

Since your motherboard will only have two channels you can stick one in the first and two in the second (or any other combo). It'll just run at dual channel.
