[BD] Star Wars The Old Republic trailer shows some Jedi action - Page 3

I was hoping this game would be out soon. I've been getting tired of games, and I need something to hold me over until the Fall. This will probably be released at the end of this year... how the hell am I going to find time to play it amongst all the other amazing titles being released...

I call this an exaggeration. It was just a demo showing off abilities, relax.

tbh... this has been "incoming" for so long that I am bored, bored, BORED.

IMHO you cannot have a "good" mmorpg based on the star-wars-universe for one very simple reason:- JEDI.

It is doomed to failure from the start because EVERYONE wants to be a Jedi. SW online failed because of this.

It will be crap; for the reasons stated.
Who wants to be an [inset class name]? Everyone wants to be a jedi... the redundancy is built into the universe.

1. There is a game testing program.
2. I am part of said game testing program.

Quite the bold prediction. A humble pie is in an Austin oven with your name on it.

I think not; the game itself by definition smashes the whole SW universe (which was, incidentally, stolen from Frank Herbert).

I gleefully await that "austin oven" (whatever the hell one of those is) with open arms and a smug grin ; that "humble pie" will not be eaten by me

You're gonna have to explain this one. I even tried getting google to translate it to German, then to French, then to Japanese, and when it got back to English it still didn't make any sense.

If you mean that there are too many Jedi, it's not the same time period as the films, it's explicitly ~3500 years earlier long before the Jedi were more or less exterminated. If you mean Jedi being equals to certain non-force users, I guess Jango holding his own against Kenobi and then owning a Jedi Council member on Geonosis didn't happen.

Yeah, when you throw it up against Star Wars purists that think only the original trilogy is canon, then yes, I suppose it defies the SW universe. In any other situation, it only enhances the SW Universe.

All the trailers for this game unfortunately look boring (although the rails space combat looks interesting). WoW trailers are pretty boring too. In other words, MMOs don't make trailers very well, since single-player combat and questing is about the least interesting thing in an MMO. It's the high-paced PvP or group/raiding combat that is more exciting.

Edit: in the quote it mentions players had to work hard to become Jedi which I think was one of the best aspects of the game other than the crafting and PVP.

It saved the Jedi for the elite, hard working players. I got my Jedi right before the Combat Upgrade.
I was the second jedi on my server and can tell you from a ton of experience that making it easier to become/level a jedi was a massive mistake for SOE. If they wanted to remove the exclusivity of allowing a few lucky individuals to even obtain one and remove the challenge of leveling it, I wish that they would've just removed player controlled jedi completely from the game. They could've left jedi as elite npcs and the game could've been incredible. Once the mystique of jedi was ruined and the game became lightstick wars, it was doomed forever. I honestly can't ever look at jedi outside of the game with the same "awe" due to what SOE allowed SWG to become.
