Voltage Regulator cracks off for fun

Thread Starter
hey folks,
yesterday i was remove my Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo from my 6950.
When i tried to remove the little ones from the voltage regulators, one of the regulators just came off with it, completely.
I didnt apply any force and i warmed up the card before i started removing them... yeah i know... Fail!

it just came off, srsly... barely touched it oO.
Now is there a way to replace this? I know it sounds stupid, but well that card was quite an investment for me. Looks like a pretty clean break to me so..... gimme some hope pls....

ideas?

Look up the serial number written on the chip and see if you can buy it online.

With some soldering skills, you may be able to re-solder the pins back in the way they were.

That will be no small feat to resoder have to pay a professional or buy a new card IMO.

It was put on the card with very precise machines in production.

the only way you could hope to do that at home is to solder little blobs onto the pads of either the replacement component or the board and then sit the vreg on top of it and use sellotape to hold it in place while the sodler melts-so the pads dont solder onto the wrong pins while the solder is liquid.
ovenbake it,the solder will melt and the sellotape will shrink and harden up and will be easy to remove with tweezers.
It may work..50/50. largely dependant on your soldering skills.
even reflowing it is chancey.

Looks similar to BGA soldering. Sadly no way to replace this yourself. Well if you had the equipment and know how you wouldn't be asking this question.

Try and see if you can RMA it.

RMA will end up wasting you your time and money. There's no way in hell you WON'T get your warranty voided.

Sorry dude. You have to be more careful swapping fans off and doing mods like this. You could maybe sell it for parts or something.

urgh, just one problem.Half of the cooling pad for the VRs is missing from the stock cooler. Hope they wont check... . And as i already said, i barely touched the thing, and it cracked off. I've done hundreds of cooler changes etc, and never had anything like that
