1366 i7 ram overclocking

little bit confused here.

I have gotten my i7 920 up to 4.0 and am currently running 3.8 100% stable.
However i can only run my ram at an 8x multiplier. I have read that my uncore has to be at least twice my ram which is currently x16 and and my QPI link is x36.
since my BCLK is 180 currently that makes my ram 1440 if i want to run it at x10 i have to bump my uncore to at least x20 does that effect my QPI link? do i need to up that a bit?
and tweaking these two things, how does that effect stability?

Hope that makes sense. I can post pics if people wanna see more info.

QPI link you shouldn't have to touch, the QPI/VTT voltage will have to go up when overclocking the uncore more to stay 2x the dram speed though.
Is that the original x58-ud5? I liked mine more than all these x58a new revision GB boards, it was a great overclocker for 3d benching with the 920...

Not sure, it was this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128362
bought on 9/25/2009

So my statments were accurate though. If i bump to 10x memory i will need to bump to atleast 20x uncore. to make sure my uncore is stable i might have to bump the QPI/VTT voltage? Its kinda hight right now anyway so........

well i got 1600mhz ram, at 4.0 for temps. 21X191. i would shoot for 4.2 ghz so your ram would be @ specs 200 with X10 on ram = 2000mhz = stock ram timings . Mite have to up the qpi because the extra speed of cpu + the fact that ram is higher end would push data past it more often then not. i got 1.40 qpi from my 1gbsticksX6

That is the board, with a bit of modding that will do 240 bclk & bench 3d there with full QPI speed. The x58a-ud3 & x58a-ud7 I have both need qpi slow mode enabled to do more than 212 bclk with a 920, kills the 3d scores.
I cooked some mosfets on my ud5 starting it up too soon after it was frozen.

Yeah, for 2000Mhz the qpi/vtt can need anywhere from 1.44V to 1.6V to run the uncore at 4000Mhz+, really depends how strong the IMC on the chip is. Depending how much extra heat it adds to the chip it may be better to run lower mem speed with better timings. I usually run 1600Mhz memory for 24/7 & just crank it up for benching.

Sounds like you guys are way more advanced then me. I couldnt get the damn thing 100% stable at 191x21. Although i have never juiced up the Vcore and the QPT/VTT. I am also on air so i kinda have to watch temps although at 3.8 currently 100% stable and have mid 60s under load.
so i could push it more for sure.
