I believe Win 7 defaults to a sleep/hibernate mode with new a new installation. If you have not yet done so, go to Control Panel > Power Savings and disable all auto-sleep options., monitor, hard drive, etc. Also, if you are using a 3rd party screen saver disable that as well. It would also be smart stick around and observe the "shutdown" for possible additionnal information. Lastly, time the shutdowns to determine if the locks are time coincident.
