Build a cool looking old crunker today

So, a friend begged me to build a custom pentium 4, he said he wants a S478 and not a LGA775, so i had to go out hunting, my budget was £200 to buy everything, his requirements were:

Pentium 4 S478 (NO HT) @ 2.0 - 2.5Ghz
1GB RAM
100GB of HDD space
onboard graphics (or geforce 4)

I was thinking, why the heck would he need a PC of these requirements when his main system is a quad core i built for him..

anyways heres some terrible quality pictures of the finished build:

the specs are:

Pentium 4 @ 2.40Ghz
1GB DDR-400 RAM
40 + 60GB IDE HDD's
just a generic cheap 400watt power supply
onboard graphics
Windows 7 Home premium 32bit.
DVD-RW & DVD drive

Hope he likes it.

again sorry for the terrible quality pictures, my camera broke

Nice that you helped him! Maybe he uses the rig to play linux or just to download stuff overnight. And imo it`s allways nice to have a backup plan (PC). I got so much PCs/Laptops around me that i`m always able to find something to go online.
If you only got one PC and this thing crashes how are you able to reach OCN?
The pics are bad yes but this thing looks sweet.
GJ!

I wonder what it's intended use is.

If that board has an AGP slot (looks like I'm seeing one), I'd have grabbed a cheap GeForce 4 MX440. They're probably next to free now. Unless that's the 865G chipset (Intel Extreme Graphics 2), it's going to be terrible, not that it'll be good even if it is. However, if he doesn't need the extra power, I suppose it'd have just been waste anyway.

thats a good overall build for what it is probably an internet machine perhaps?? so that everyone doesnt have to use his main rig? good job

They had an AGP Geforce 4 MX440 at the Thrift Store last week and turned it down. I think he wanted 15.00 for it.

Yes that is a AGP 8X slot you are seeing and the onboard graphics is the Intel 82865G 64mb graphics controller.

Thank you, He said that he will mainly use it for music and internet. (that explains the wireless card) Haha I hope this system doesnt come back in a few weeks with him saying that his sister has messed it up.

I'm going to charge him £45 for building it, Installing the windows 7 + drivers + Anti-virus software. I also will buy a 19" LCD for £70 tomorrow.

Ah, just realized it has Windows 7 on it anyway, so there'd be less of a point getting a card that isn't at least DirectX 9 with proper Windows 7 drivers.
