Funny laptop question

Thread Starter
I am looking for a laptop for my father in-law, who is French. He doesn't care about gaming or battery life.

He cares about processing power, screen quality and price (below $1000 US).

I was thinking a 13 or 15" i5, but here's the kicker... whatever I can find, he needs to be able to buy the French version of that with the funky AZERTY keyboard vs our QWERTY.

Also some of the models are different, so I'm not sure I can even do this. But I know all the search tools here (the EGG!) so if I can find something here here that he can pick up when he gets home that would be the best.

Any thoughts or suggestions on how to do this, or on models that are nice?

buy something in canada which has bi-lingual keyboard.

or what you can do is buy the laptop, then go on ebay and swap out the keyboard. replacement keyboards go from anywhere between $20-$40.

so what you can do is research the laptop and then go on ebay to see if the laptop mfg does make a french keyboard.

Or pluck out the keys of pretty much any laptop and switch their positions, then rebind the keyboard with software.

For $1000 He should be able to get an i7 2720qm (sandybridge) + quality screen. If he cant a 2630qm will work just fine, there's no reason he shouldnt be able to find a sandybridge quad for $1000, only constraint is that if you dont want to swap keyboards or do what I suggested, you might be limited to older models.
