An 8800GT is still enough, even in 2011. - Page 6

Seeing as how the specs are exactly the same before/after the upgrade, one would hope the performance would be on par if nothing else.

It isn't.

Not in the least.

The day that SLI 8600's actually outperform a 5850 is a depressing one for me

I'd say 1. Your CPU is a bottleneck and 2. It's most likely a driver issue.

TLDR thread.

My 3870 could handle every new game up to January when it was replaced at reasonable settings on an old monitor which maxes out at 1360x768. I'm guessing you're still playing at crappy resolutions.

Also, you aren't truly 'maxing out' settings unless you have high levels of AA and AF.

Because your E6750 is massively bottlenecking an HD5850 in GTA4. That game is heavily reliant on multiple, fast cores.

But at 800x600 on all low?
Come on man, I've seen a Pentium 4, with just ONE 8600 at a higher resolution, run better than that .

Lower Resolution = More work for the CPU.

No... It's not... Performance is gonna be based on the CPU more, since you need more CPU in relation to GPU, but the CPU usage in general remains about the same.

So that's why say BC2 if I lower the resolution to 800x600 or 1024x768 that the CPU usage goes from 35-40% to 65-70%?
