Anyone still run a Q6600? - Page 2

The Q6600 was a revolution for its time when it came out.

@ Code Geass

That is the best comparison I have ever seen, I might just sig that.

Edit:
Just sigged.

Q6700 here. Honestly, running 463x7 (3.24Ghz) and a GTX560 can max out all the games that I play and is plenty FPS wise. But I still usually run 463x8 (3.7Ghz) just because. This rig should last me a couple years more easily. I doubt I'll upgrade until 6 core are utilized regularly on games.

I still have it.

But I'm changing it to 2600K, Q6600 really bottlenecks my GTX580 very badly... In example, I can't get over 20K in mark06, no matter what I do. That with 3.6Ghz in Q6600.

So I need new processor to unleash 580.

I just scored a 20154 in 3DMark06 on my Q6700 and 560.

I dont understand why some many people are saying the Q6600 overclocked is such a bottleneck. I have no problem running max GPU usage, but its game dependant. Yes, I understand the 580 is a beter card, but not by a ton. Eh, oh well.

Part of that is because 3dMark 06 is pretty CPU biased, try Unigine Heaven or 3dMark 11 instead.

Thats an impressive clock! I could not get my Q6700 stable at 3.75Ghz without going near 1.5v, and I just dont want to. Im also a little annoyed that my uber expensive air cooler can't really handle any more voltage either. I have a 1.26 VID, btw. I have good RAM and Mobo too, so it annoys me.

What voltage do you use?

There is a reason "SCOTTY I NEED MORE POWER", "IM SORRY CAPIN IM GIVIN HER ALL SHES GOT".....time to trade in that warp drive for a SB or IB lol.

Uhm... You do know that 3DMark06 is a worthless GPU bench?
It's like 70% CPU bench, and 30% GPU.
