Anyone still run a Q6600? - Page 4

I love how people "worry" about runnning benches on things and then have to run out and buy something "newer" to gain a few points.
I've been running my sig rig for a few years now with no problems with games or anything I throw at it.
Only thing that maybe it is a little slow on would be when I am rendering videos but hey even the newer processors can cough a little on them as well. So what if I have to go have a sandwich or something for a few minutes while this thing chews on stuff. Good time to me to get up and take a break anyway.
As far as games, I don't really play much but this thing has handled ME2 and a couple others with no problems for my old eyes.

I would like to make a new platform sometime but the economy is tough and getting tougher so money is going to be tight for some time to come and I can still visit the forums, play a few games, and do my photo and video work on this ole girl till she can't go anymore.
The Q6600 has been a great processor to learn a lot of things on as well. I just may have to push it one of these days but I think that my MB may be the bottleneck on that.
Besides as all these people who just have to have the newest stuff upgrade it will make for some less expensive processors and MB's in the future for us frugile spenders!!!
I just got an E8400 to run in a small box for folding and it doesn't seem to run as good as the 6600 at stock! Guess I should look for another 6600 to use for my WHS server setup that I am puting together with spare stuff.

Very true! For some reason your post made me think about my first Overclocking experience on my Q6600 heart.gif ..I do miss the days of easy FSB overclocking... Q6600 will be a great CPU for a good while yet.... And they are still around $100.00 bucks used... That's some great legs for an aging CPU!

wwooohh lot of Q6600 users....um still running @ 3.7 ghz...can do 3.8 but needs 1.5v..have any of been running @ this volt? do u recommend 1.5V for 24/7 use?
or will it kill the CPU slowly?

still one rock solid CPU...

Yours is not from the same generation.
The E8400 is a 45nm CPU while the Q6600 is 65nm biggrin.gif

Not bashing people who like benchmarking, but I couldn't give less of a rat's behind how many points I get in various benchmarks...as long as games play fine. Last time I checked, my rig with the Q6600 can still max almost everything out there.

Had it since grade 11, now it's second year uni and guess what...couldn't be happier!

You can game well but you can't MAX everything out there

Mine has past 2 yrs now and still going strong. My Son and I made this processor the choice for my first build.

VID is 1.325 frown.gif but I've had it to 3.4ghz @ 1.425v prime stable. I'm working thru an issue now where I can't run Hyper PI, anything above 8m crashes though I can run OCCT 1hr, OCCT Linpack 1hr and Prime95 for 2 hours without errors or crashing confused.gif

I'm using it in a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P mobo so a legendary CPU on a legendary motherboard and it still plays my favorite game (at the moment) BulletStorm at decent fps. Currently clocked to 3.0ghz @ 1.3500v (9x333) All in an Antec 300 case.

Does anyone remember that the Q6600, when it first was introduced, cost like $850?!?! eek.gif..... mine was $180 cheers.gif

edit:
BTW, I'm running a XFX GTS250 GPU, stock clocks

Kind of depends on the games played. biggrin.gif

I consider 16AF and 8 Supersample AA maxing out. That's all the SSAA my card allows. I usually add 4MSAA too, for good measure. biggrin.gif I use those settings for every game I play, along with high detail for ingame settings and I gets me through every game fine at 1920x1080. smile.gif

Still have the 6700, use it for civ5, Rift and Everquest II. Backed it off to 3.5 for win 7. I also have a 939 AMD on air at 2.7
