i have a 980X, a 2600k, and a 2500k which I am using to bench. When really using the cpu with multitreaded apps, my 980X is much faster. when only using single /double treaded apps, Sandy bridge is the way to go. In your situation, the 990x will be the choice.

So it appears the biggest noise issue I'll have is the 6990. How is the 6970's noise compared to the 6990? I could deal with the 6970 only having two mini DP connections.

Here's a helpful noise chart: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2...oise,2680.html

Note that it doesn't list the 6990. Here's another chart from the site: http://media.bestofmicro.com/W/N/283...inal/Noise.png

The 6990 is going to be a beast on your ears if you leave it with stock cooling. Given your budget I would highly recommend getting a water block for your GPU. You could probably drop down to a single Eyefinity card and save a bundle, too.

If price is not a concern then build an SR-2 rig. You can get two 6-core Xeons for $200 more than the price of a 990x.

2 x E5645 = $1198
SR-2 = $598
24GB RAM = $499

Nice suggestion, I wouldn't have thought of that. Would have tons of multi threading capabilities

Same Speed? 990x will destroy the 2600k. 2600k cannot make 10 points in Cinebench unless you run it @ 5.2Ghz. That's a suicide run according to 1 member. Meaning, He will not run that for anything else. He just want to make the 10 points. My 970 easily hit 10.33 @ 4.0Ghz. So there you go.

BTW, The SR-2 Rig is my dream machine. Live the dream for me.

basically i would say all that mutiltasking is going to kill any system. so:

Get a SR2 mobo and plonk in 2xCore i7 990X, Heaps of ram a 6990 and you should be sweet.
