@Antistatic12 If you could 2x a 990x this conversation probably wouldn't be happening. I'd have my decision made for me. But alas, you cannot.

590gtx have a display port...jus saying they are also a tonne quieter than the 6990.

You are correct. I didn't notice NVidia release a card with a mini DP on it. Unfortunatey I already have two displays that require a DP connection and it only has 1. Thanks for the info. I would suspect the next release of NVidia cards will have additional DP connections.

Bro, build your own rig it'll be a much more fun experience and we are here to help with any questions regarding the build etc. I'd say go Sandy Bridge over that 990x. Those new chips can hit 4.5-5ghz on air I believe.

It's not the socket. It's the QPI link

Despite the price bump, the 990x (or dual cpu SR-2 if your budget allows) will be the best performing for your applications.

That said, someone made a comment about triple channel RAM... disregard, no real performance over dual channel. However going 990x will by default use triple channel.

Looking at what you listed from Cyber, a few comments:

Build you own if you can. It will save you money and allow you to cherry pick better components.

Although I'm a fan of Coolermaster cases (currently running a Sniper), they are by no means what you could call quiet. There are a number of cases out there (antec P182 for example) that emphasize quiet (usually at the sacrifice of air cooling though).

Also, I'd suggest you steer clear of coolermaster power supplies. A decent 850w would be plenty (Seasonic, Enermax, certain Corsair models).

After looking at building it myself I can save a substantial amount of money. If I go with the 990x and want to Liquid Cool the ATI 6990 and CPU what do I need to buy? I was reading the XtremeGear LC are junk. Plus I am guessing to LC the 6990 I'd have to remove the plastic guards and put a water block on it?

Yes, and the block for the 6990 is pricy to say the least.

Do you need a 6990? As noted above, a single 6970 would be quieter and still provide multi monitor support.

Also, if you are going for a single 990x and a single GPU, the Rampage III extreme is overkill. It's a top end overclocking motherboard designed with 3 (or 4) gpu arrays in mind.

You can grab any decent $200 range board and it will be plenty.
