I'm the type of person that will get over zealous and have to RMA my MB and CPU because I forgot to put the thermal paste on correctly. However, looking at prices I am building it myself. There is no point in wasting that much money to have someone else build it for me.

To get the ball rolling on cooling systems, would CoolIT Vantage Advanced Liquid be sufficient enough to cool the 990x if I get it running at 4.2 - 4.5 ghz?

How bout this?? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814500174
Not sure how good is this.
u can SLI it and still be cheaper than the 6990.
And the waterblock for this is already out.

I know that CS5 support gpu acceleration from nvidia and not ati.
But I can be wrong.
And for unity, dont know if u gonna use the physics much but if u do nvidia support physx.

Anyway, I would go come with the most cores and the most RAM u can get.

Yeah, but there are obviously some better options. Especially considering how expensive the 990x is-- no reason to skimp on the cooling.

I agree, I don't want to skimp on anything. I am still going back and forth between the ATI HD 6970 and 6990. I don't need the power of the 6990 just the 3 mini DP connections. I saw that the GTX 560? someone else posted seemed to have 3 DisplayPort connections. That could work.

If I did go with the 6990 can I reduce all of the noise it makes by buying a water block for it? It looks like the only water block for the 6990 is the Koolance Radeon HD 6990 Waterblock.

6990 is overkill for most applications, 560 is a huge step down though.

A waterblock will greatly reduce the noise of most GPU's, especially the 6990 (which sounds more like a 747 than a graphics card)

Can you imagine yourself using two or three 2600ks systems?
at 4.0-4.4ghz on air?

the SR2 dual xeon combo is in the range of price of two or three 2600k combos?

I know this is odd, but for that kind of investment...
There are alot of options...

Has everyone forgotten about amd bulldozer? If your patient, you should wait for that, as the new chips will probably drive down the prices of intels of anyway, and the four 1 and a half core "modules" should be great at multitasking.
