Hd6850 or gtx460

Thread Starter
So, my 4850 crapped out on me (died, so i need a new one before anything else)... Time to get a new GPU i guess... These two caught my eye, as i found them at really acceptable price ranges, and they seem pretty decent compared to my old 4850.

So, which one is better?

eVGA GTX460 1GB SE SuperClocked 147.00€

or

AMD Radeon HD6850 Standard 139.99€ (just dropped price, 129.99)

My main goal is performance, AND stability. Of course if there are other significant differences i should consider, i will!
Right now i'm leaning on trying the GTX460, but i've spent the last years on ATI and part of me thinks maybe i'll regret it.

Speak your mind!

AMD 6850 over GTX 460 but I'd go GTX 560Ti over AMD 6850 if you can.

My current rig doesn't allow for SLI or Xfire, so not really. The current options are really only those two, since around here the 6870 and GTX560 shoot really out of my price range, in fact, the GTX560 is basically double the price of the GTX460. Actually, scrap that one, just found a 560Ti for 149.90€. Don't really know how reliable is the supplier, will have to check.

Is the GTX560 any significant improvement over the 6850?

Also, i play @ 1280x1024, so no real overkill needed. My PSU is 550W with 16A on +12V1 and 18A on +12V2, don't really know how many amps cards need these days.

Then AMD 6850. I alway felt the 400 series by Nvidia were not as well done as they could have been. So in your case the AMD 6850 is a great choice.

The 500 series however Nvidia did right by lowering power consumption, getting better efficiency with redesign and in turn lower heat dissipation. But I digress....have fun. Let us know how you end up going?

I can't speak for the Nvidia cards but I can vouch for the performance, reliability, quietness, and coolness of the 6850 I have.

Ok, my current PSU probably was what killed my old HD4850 (Crappy PSU) so i will have to trade it.

Noticed the 6850 Needs a lot less wattage than the GTX560Ti (about 50W less under 100% load) so unless the performance boost is justified, having a 6850 will allow me to save a bit on the PSU. So... 6850 vs 560Ti, what's the veredict?
