Is it worth to watercool a GTX 560? - Page 2

I say don't bother with anything else for a 560. The twin frozr design has proven to cool the best out of the non-reference designs and have excellent acoustics; during gaming, I couldn't hear it over my case fans.

I ran at 970/2300 and I wouldn't go above 65c in games in a slightly warm room. The only problem is the lack of the MOSFET heatsinks which kept me from hitting 1GHz, but that's easily remedied if you really want to hit those clocks.

You know me from the other thread. I'm not a big fan of buying the latest and greatest (Used to be but not ne'more). I had the 560 since it came out (guess i ignored the latest part) and I've been fiddling with it ever since (EVGA Superclocked). I've been looking for a waterblock since launch day, but EK's been too busy with the GTX 599999 or the ATI 69999999 and they neglected the little plucky 560. After a couple of weeks Heatkiller came out with a good design which I bought for 100 bucks. @ 1.15v 1040mhz core and 5000mhz memory, I ran Kombuster for over 9 hours (Using Arctic Silver 5 as TIM for the GPU) and the temps didn't go over 46C. Later on I might buy a second 560 to SLI them and that would future proof the system for a good while. At the end, it's up to you. if you have the money, buy a good reference card and put a block on it, after overclocking it to the limit, it'll perform noticeably better than a 570 or a 6950,

I'm a big fan of watercooling, but the problem with GPUs is how often you'll end up switching them out. Then you're paying $150-180 for another block, and you have to take down your loop.

I think water-cooling the 560 is completely unnecessary. I'm at 1025mhz at 1.07v, and I hover in the mid 50's while gaming. Although the ambient temps are quite low right now.

I would say a full-cover waterblock isn't worth it for the card. Not at all.

However, a universal block is. You upgrade cards down the road and still have a block you can use.

Temps are great of course. I have an XSPC universal block and it loads at 42C with 1.087v and 25C ambient. My friend has the same card and it loads in the low-60's. So it runs just fine on air.

I vote for water-cooling everything.

GPUs, CPU, HDDs, keyboard, mouse, monitor, ceiling fan, and the cat (when it stops to fight it, that damn cat. Block won't stick and GF won't let me shave him).

In other words, not really worth it, but its cool
