question bout upcoming amd/ati cards

Thread Starter
So I've got a Radeon 6970 2GB Diamond graphics card. I didn't actually want to buy it originally (I wanted to get a tide-me-over card until the 7000-series & 600-series respectively come out, to see what the nanometer process reduction does for performance).

So I'm wondering if anyone has any links to any recent news speculating when the release of the new-gen material will be for AMD/ATI specifically (or even NVidia if you know).

Additionally, I'm wondering: What do you think I'll be able to sell a used 6970 2GB reference card for in 3-6 months? I know this is really subject to a lot of possible change... but do you think $180-$220 will *probably* be easy to do just before new stuff comes out?

This is just a speculation thread, that's all.

umm, I go by the rule of thumb that tech looses about 40% of its value in 1 year. So I think in 3/6 months time, ~200 is what I would pay. Remember, chances are the new cards wont come out until q3. Honestly, if I was you, I would just crossfire up, and just hold out until the 8000 series or the 700 series is here. But, everyone on overclock.net wants the tech on tommorow yesterday, so on ebay yes, but on a forum like this, expect around 170-190 in a few months. Try and sell BEFORE the release, you will get much more money then too.

From some people I talk to that are in the know 7000 series isn't going to be huge leap like the 3000 to 4000 series leap was. A 7970 will be like a 6970 on steroids; pretty much about the same as 5000 to 6000 series was.

Also I wouldn't expect to see the new cards any time soon as they are having issues with the 22nm fab at TSMC and GloFo isn't up to capacity yet.

I don't think you should have a problem getting what you quoted as that's how much 5870s were going for on here used after 6000 series came out.

Not worth it, keep the 6970 and slap on another when time is right if you need more performance.
