Recommended wattage for my build?

Thread Starter 
I plan to build the following rig:
AMD 1090t @ between 4-5 ghz (as high as I can safely go)
Dual unlocked Saphire 2gb 6950's
Asus Crosshair 4 Formula
Standard sata HDD
OCZ 30gb SSD
4gb Gskill ripjaws-x cl6 @1600 (probably oc a bit toward 2000)
Noctua D14 / Watercooling (cpu only loop)
Antec 1200 pc case (with all fans included)

All the calculators I've used suggest a 1000-1200 watt psu, which I think sounds a little on the high side. Anyone care to suggest an optimal wattage for a rig like this, also powering 4-6 usb devices and maybe some more ram if I ever need it?

You would be set with an 850w psu, 1kw is overkill. You can get away with a 750w as well, but its nice to have overhead to keep the stress on the psu lower.

For this system, a quality 600-650W will be more than enough (such as the 650W Antec TruePower New).

This is a good reason to avoid using those so-called power supply calculators.

AMD recommends a PSU with a 500W peak rating to power a system with a single 6950 in it (source). So, that's why a quality 600-650W is more than enough.

750W is fine for two unlocked 6950s.

1000W is ridiculous, and I don't even have an epithet for 1200W.

And do those wattages include the highly oced 1090t and the close to 9 fans? If so, then that's great, save myself $50 to put towards something else.

Absolutely. A quality 600-650W power supply is absolutely enough.

For the best value in a quality PSU, the 650W Antec TruePower New is very difficult to beat.

does his system draw that much less power than mine? ive pulled over 800W with mine on a 90% efficient psu so thats 720W+

I honestly don't see how you'll reach 5 GHz on that Phenom II X6, but good luck to you. Like I said, for your system with two unlocked 6970s, 750W is fine. 650W would work, too, but given that unlocked 6950s seem to eat more power than regular 6970s, I'd rather recommend the step above. Plus 750W is what Tator Tot suggests for two 6970s

2 things to measure it, 1: Zalman MFC2, 2: Belkin device that plugs into the wall outlet then plug the power cord from my computer into it that measures wattage.

2 scenarios 1: Furmark, 2: folding + furmark. Scenario 2 was about 50ish watts higher
