6850 pencil/voltmod help - Page 2

Sorry to bump an old thread but I was wondering if OP was able to make any progress with this. I have the same card (6850 ZNFC) and would like to push it to ~1.3v to hopefully get it up to 1Mhz+ core =). Would rather do hard mod though and not pencil mod

Some extra pics of the card in random spots: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I can snap pics of other areas of the cards if it helps, just let me know

So that is the correct vmod? CL3P20 was saying it might be for the mem circuit so I just want to make sure lol

Would be great to get a pick without the cooler on.. I cant find any decent pics online that show the front side of the PCB.

*GPUv controller should be near the xfire connection ... vmem at the end closer to the PCI-E power connection.

I just picked up a new card, HIS 6850 that actually has software voltage control with the CHiL chip, and may be selling this one off...but just in case anyone else might need the mod I went and borrowed a better camera and took a few more detailed shots:

Whole card completely nekkid(circled area is where APW7088 is located, where OP's pics are)

I also just learned that these cards used to have the CHiL chip in them...I think they changed it this year which is why a lot of people with the same card have no voltage control

confirmed then.. the APW7088 is indeed GPUv controller and 20k VR should be for mod. Confirm by measuring resistance on the marked FB pin in the pic I posted.

*vmem appears to be APW718S [8x leg IC near PCI-E power input]

Alright so knowing what we know... I'm a noob at this but I have no problem soldering on boards.

Easiest for me would be - What resistor should I shade to increase voltage... or...

Can you give me a little guide on exactly what I need to do to vmod this *****. I don't mind doing it ghetto. Are you saying I need a 20k variable resistor, and then I put one side on either of those green dots and then ground the other side or does one wire go to one green dot and the other wire go to the other green dot?

I'd reallllly like to just do this the simplest way possible. Also can I read voltages through software or do I really have to bust out the multimeter.

Please give me some kind of a guide or details on where to go with this because on top of everything the picture of the chip you put up is on a different board so I'm still totally lost...

If this is gonna be a huge mission D'd rather just sell the card and buy another.

Alright so I went over the guide so I just need to know where to connect each wire to. One side needs to be a ground near the chip and the other side goes to the chip itself or do I have to probe around with a multi to figure out which resistor I attach one of the wires to and then choose the closest ground accordingly?

If this can be done with a pencil then where do I start? Just shade whichever resistor is giving me 1.15v?

SHADE THE RESISTOR MARKED IN GREEN- if using pencil

If using a VR- land an outer leg to the green resistor..and the middle leg to a ground.. make sure its a 20k VR and tune back to stock resistance once installed [before adjusting further].

I'm going to volt mod it. I went to Radio Shack and bought two 10k 15 turn Potentiometers (.75w) and I will wire them in-line since they didn't have a 20k. I will check resistance prior to install to make sure card is getting stock voltage and go from there... The thing is the blue board that you're showing me, that's not the 6850 board... 17683119146595927191428.jpg

That's my board, so looking at that picture, should I be checking that resistor that is in line with the same spot you've highlighted on the vreg chip?
