Okay so it's changing some other voltage that can be read near the vgpu on the back of the board. it's like around .95 and playing with the pots makes it go both up and down =$

Okay so somehow my card is still not dead - awesome.

Well I tried the 20000 ohm VR at the original point which read 9980 ohm and of course i got some ridiculous voltage like 1.6 something.

So, correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't I be using a 100k pot?

If my calculation is correct, using a 100k pot with max resistance should put me at around 1.26v ?

Out of stupidity I removed one of the pots (10k) and quickly tried it and the voltage reading was like 2.0 volts and the bios screen quickly artifacted. I'm really wondering how long this card is going to last now, lol but whatever. I'm going to get a 100k pot tomorrow and start over.

I really wish that the guide could've gone into more detail about how to calculate voltage/ohms and what not

Actually I guess I should use a 200k VR to get voltage even lower? Does it seem right that the stock resistance would be so high? I remember seeing another thread where someone volt modded a 5770 or 9600 with this chip and used a 100k VR so maybe not?

if stock resistance is .9 ... then 20k is the correct size

*For future reference.. stop posting 100x messages every five minutes.. and just edit the 1x Mods will clean your posts if you dont.

PS- doesnt sound like you read any guide or are following directions very carefully. I posted the correct mod, and VR size. Your lucky you still have a GPU right now. You should be tuning the VR's close to the stock value once installed into the circuit.... THEN you adjust power. Just as well... using 2x VR's in the manner you have makes adjustments more tedious and the voltage jumpy.

Resistance = 'Allowed Voltage'

How does that make any sense? It's not .9, it's 9.9 as in 9980.

20k almost killed my graphics card so I appreciate all the great advice you've given me but I've had to figure everything out on my own. Truth is I shouldn't have relied on some random advice from the internet before researching it all myself. I even posted pictures of my board area with the resistance readings I was getting at different spots and you still offered no specific advice so I have to wonder if YOU really know what you're doing? I know I don't but i have a much better idea now. That guide is nice and all if someones actually done the mod before and you know exactly what spot/readings you're supposed to be getting, but this was not the case now was it?

You said the resistance should be between 1.1 and 1.3 so I figured the chip was oriented differently than it was in the picture you posted because then #13 would be in a different spot and when I checked it (check my previous post/pictures), it had 1.26 resistance. I tried that spot and it was not for the vgpu so then I tried the original spot and it sure was it, but 20k was NO WHERE near enough resistance.

I already said that the resistance was set to max which was 19xxx ohms/ 19.5 or whatever on the VR. That was NEVER a problem.

I did the formula where I got my original ohms of 9980, divided by 20000 (20k VR) +1 = 1.499 Then you get the original voltage of 1.15 and multiply and you get 1.72. This CONFIRMS that 20k is NOT the right VR.

Or you can try the other way 9.9 x 20 = 198k resistor!

So I did the other formula and 9980 divided by 100k +1 = 1.0998 x 1.15 = 1.26v. So yeah a 100k trimmer will work but your minimum voltage will be 1.26v so realistically you need a 200k trimmer to do it correctly.

Anyway I'm not blaming anyone but myself but next time maybe you shouldn't be so sure of yourself. I posted so many times because I was having so many inconsistencies with what you said and aside from a couple of them there were hours in between with details and pictures on what was going on. Anyway I'll post up my results later today or tomorrow when I get around to re-doing this mod.

it really comes down to just 2x things.. and 2x things only..

#1. verify the 'fb' pin and connected resistor : Done.. the pic posted is the same as teh pin-out you posted.. So 'fb' is confirmed.

#2. OEM resistance at teh mod location *20 = initial size for VR to mod

..the dot on the IC indicates orientation... it is the same in both pics.. there is no difference. There is no specific advice to give here .. mods are as easy as completing the 2x steps above.

**Sorry if you got confused in any way. I've been helping people on this forum mod their GPU's for several years.. I just stopped explaining everything in minute detail.. as its just repeated time and time again. There are plenty of guides on the net on how to mod... No one is forcing you to follow my advice. I simply post the mods for people now..and try to lend a hand. Im not into 'hand-holding' through the entire process.. there are others around here for that.

My apologies. Was just frustrated.

I did exactly what I outlined above the first time on the resistor that read 1.2 resistance and when I checked the voltage on the back of the board, there were a whole bunch of spots giving me two different voltages. One was .95v and the other was 1.18v. Based off that I would assume that 1.18v would be what I'm looking for since stock voltage is supposed to be 1.15v (I also ran a game to make sure GPU was in 3d mode). Well then when I started adjusting the resistance on the VR, the 1.18 was not changing at all, but the other voltage (.95) was changing and after a bit too much adjustment, the card would blue screen.

Well then I tried the VR set to max resistance on the other spot that read 9.98 ohms and immediately the voltage that before read 1.18 jumped to 1.65 or so.

Based on that, and that if the dot is what you use to figure out orientation (bottom right in my picture), that would mean that the spot that reads 9.98 ohms is the FB and that the other spot would be CSN1.

So it seems the spot is confirmed, but if the resistance reading is 9.98, then a 20k VR does not give enough resistance to do the job. I calculated that around 70k of resistance with a stock voltage of 1.18 would result in 1.34v.

Please let me know what the mistake in my thinking is because this appears to me to be the answer.

=) that's what I've been trying to get at. It seemed like you guys were saying 20k or bust.

http://www.overclock.net/graphics-ca...od.htmlhttp://

That's another volt mod with same chip where dude used a 50k. Anyway I'm gonna do the mod again here in a few and let you know what's up.
