Compatibility?

So if this motherboard:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...ct=4041179#N92

Works with this chip:

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AM...15OCK22GQ.html

Shouldnt it be able to use any chip similar as long as its within the TDP of 95w?

Like the Athlon X2 250, 255, 260.

Or the Athlon X3 440,450?

Even though they arent listed on compatibility sheet.

seeing as its an HP board, NO. the bios is gonna be pretty locked down and chances are you wont get all AM2/AM2+ chips to work, despite in theory them working great. hit up a local retail outlet (frys comes to my mind), i get alot of am2 boards, msi's i believe, for aroudn 40 bucks that work great.

Generally speaking yes, an AM3 CPU should run on virtually any AM2+ mobo.

I don't know if HP/Compaq has released any BIOS updates, but you could always upgrade to an mod bios to get the job done.

Thanks for the info guys, been researching this for days. Got about 40-50 bucks to waste on a cpu for this board, gf's computer, and its just so weird. She has a Sempron LE-1300 in there right now. Was looking at tri and quad core Phenom's but didnt like there low clock speeds. Plus dual and tri core Athlon II and Phenom II's seem to beat old Phenoms in gaming benchmarks.

If I can mod that Bios that may help a lot.
