[CVG]Crysis 2 sales dominated by Xbox 360 version - Page 11

I think some are missing the point.

Let's face it, Crysis was not so much a game rather than a playable demo as let's say taking Unigine or 3D Mark and making them playable. Some reviews at the time said as much as they felt that the game was rather more of an engine demo.

Crytec probably wanted to sell their engine as much as the game.

Anyway, some here miss the point when they go in blind defence of Crysis 2.

First and foremeost, most people bought the game to showcase their computer power and be wowed at the graphics. As I stated above, the game in some quarters was considered nothing but a demo for the engine anyways. It was a far cry from Far Cry.

Crysis represented cutting edge and people are justly mad when Crysis 2 comes out and it does not take that approach. Crysis' niche, its bread and butter, was to be on the bleeding edge and that is no longer the case and people are pissed.

It’s like expecting a room in the penthouse and then getting one in the broom closet.

Proof of this avg. console gamer is 25yr old? All the kids I know prefer X-box 360 and only because their frinds play it. Anyone I know above the age of majority is playing PS3 or PC and almost never buy games at release price.

I'm speaking from my experience here. Perhaps where you live the average console gamer is 25 years old but not around here. And even if they are 25, it doesn't mean they are as computer proficient as most users here. These are the same people who get viruses and fall to nigerian scams.

And what do you mean going to a dedicated console forum and see that piracy is disliked? As if people will actually admit liking piracy!

Also crapsoles have much bigger audience. PC games never sold that well, but Microsoft and Sony spend huge dollars to popularize gaming amongst the lower education level consumers, which made all the developers switch to the newer more profitable market.

But crapsole audience has their rich mommies and daddies who love paying $60 for all the new games that come out, and they have other pricing models such as rentals to generate revenue.
I'm waiting for it to go on sale on Steam for <$30. The game just isn't interesting enough to warrant the price.

And I'm really sick of people like you condoning piracy, if I don't like a game I just don't buy it, I don't pirate it because I somewhat feels entitled to it.

Sure most console gamers are tools, the general population is like that, doesn't mean there isn't console gamers who enjoy their hobby and aren't tools used by the big corporations.

I have friends in a large spectrum of age from 20 to 38, and while I know it's not a global represntation or anything, most of my younger friends are PC gamers which wouldn't ever buy a game if their life depended on it while most of my older firends are hardcore console gamers since the NES or even before and never pirated once.

I hate piracy but this isn't my biggest gripe, what I hate the most is people saying that pirating a game is totally whitin their right because the game doesn't correspond to what they expected of it, if you don't like the game, don't buy it, if you pirate it you obviously want to play it but don't want to spend money on it and will try to find every excuses possible to justify that.

Now I'm not against every kind of "piracy", downloading a game for the Super Nintendo or Sega Saturn doesn't hurt anybody and will only contribute to your gaming knowledge, as long as a game isn't sold anymore I don't have a problem with it. Many people have in the past qualified me as a "corporate sheep" which couldn't be farther form the truth, I hate big companies and publishers with a passion, but if you don't like a game or don't agree with the way the industry is going, just don't buy their games, pirating them only means you want to play their games but don't want to spend your hard earned cash, while if people simply boycotted a game and didn't pirate it publishers would have to understand the message and follow suit.

(Sorry if some of it doesn't make sense, English obviously isn't my first language).

Do you know what condoning is? You used it correctly in your previous post but now you used it wrong.

You've really lost me. I'm saying that I don't pirate and that I buy my games. You have a problem with that? Or are you automatically assuming that I'm a pirate just because I'm a PC gamer hence proving what I'm trying to say? (As is evident in your previous posts)

i tend to have to agree with you about the age range of console gamers and pc gamers.

most "pc gamers" i know are well under 18, where the opposite is true about console gamers as most i know are well over 25 to 50.

also to me, the "view" on what PC gaming use to be, also strikes me as a "young" view...i'm 30, and been a "gamer" since i got a NES back in 1986...i don't remember the "golden age" of pc games, if anything pc gaming IMPROVED with the introdution of consoles that had similar capabilities, which was after 2002...before then, pc gaming was a bunch of meh and exclusive pc titles that weren't found on consoles...and a lot of that had to do with the the inherent differences between the console and PC...now with the hardware being much closer and the OS's being much closer to the PC, it doesn't take a leap of faith to realize that the "PC exclusives" we once enjoyed would be severely limited, but it also opened up an entire world of titles to the pc that we wouldn't have gotten if it wasn't for the console.

there are also genre's that belong in the PC that don't translate at all over to the console, the one that comes to mind is my favorite, and that is real time strategies, any and all RTS's have failed horribly on the console, but still remain firmly in the arena of PC gaming...its just hard to find good RTS's when noobly pc trolls and consoler's only think FPS are where the "goodies" are at.

And as stated eleventy billion times before, Dx 10 in Crysis 1 was almost non-existent. You'd have to look at a screen shot to tell a difference.

LoL. Way to pat your own back. PC gamers aren't any smarter or dumber than console ones. Many of those who toot their PC elitist horn the most are more similar to the console fanboy than they think.

And as far as maturity and age go, there might be the occasional kid screaming on his mic on a console game but we have PLENTY of that going on with PC too, along with tons of racism, tons of cheating and aimbotters emptying servers and TONS of nerd rage on forums like Mycrysis.com

The guy has a point. PC gamers tend to justify pirating as some Robin Hood act when they're just killing the market.

I do think that pirating is vastly overstated and the vast majority of it occurs in poorer countries like China, Brazil and India. Focusing the anti-pirating efforts and laws in the US/EU is like the US trying to solve its debt issues by cutting back on foreign aid.

also to me, the "view" on what PC gaming use to be, also strikes me as a "young" view...i'm 30, and been a "gamer" since i got a NES back in 1986...i don't remember the "golden age" of pc games, if anything pc gaming IMPROVED with the introdution of consoles that had similar capabilities, which was after 2002...before then, pc gaming was a bunch of meh and exclusive pc titles that weren't found on consoles...and a lot of that had to do with the the inherent differences between the console and PC...now with the hardware being much closer and the OS's being much closer to the PC, it doesn't take a leap of faith to realize that the "PC exclusives" we once enjoyed would be severely limited, but it also opened up an entire world of titles to the pc that we wouldn't have gotten if it wasn't for the console.

there are also genre's that belong in the PC that don't translate at all over to the console, the one that comes to mind is my favorite, and that is real time strategies, any and all RTS's have failed horribly on the console, but still remain firmly in the arena of PC gaming...its just hard to find good RTS's when noobly pc trolls and consoler's only think FPS are where the "goodies" are at.
I think people around the 30ish range think like you and I do, which is to say sensibly and non-fanboyish. This is why I instantly think that a poster is young ( 22ish or younger ) when I see OCNers talking down on the console crowd, saying 'OMGZ PC gaming is ded!' or generally exaggerating how consolized PC gamers are.
