[CVG]Crysis 2 sales dominated by Xbox 360 version - Page 6

To the piracy discussion at hand:
Crysis 1 is still (last I checked at least) the #30 best selling PC Game.....4 years after it was released. And they blamed its "poor" sales on piracy in 2007 too.

They'll blame piracy even more for Crysis 2, and use that as an excuse to not fix it. That is EXACTLY why Crysis got a whopping 2 patches, and Warhead got either 0 or 1 (don't remember now).

Have fun boycotting a PC game just because of the shader model it uses, and developers will see the low PC sales and you'll be lucky to even get it released on PC next time.

Consoles = $$$, and fixed hardware, so no complaints from the hardware enthusiasts.

Not sure what game you've been looking at, the graphics are incredible. Sure they're not perfect, but who plays a game just for the graphics? If you just want great graphics go run a graphics benchmark.

I have never understood this either. Crysis and Crysis: Warhead were both visual marvels, but they were otherwise nothing more than average FPS games. There simply was nothing compelling for me in either. My friend, however, is an artist, and refuses to play certain games unless they look "realistic" to his eye. He cites Gears of War as an example, where every soldier is built like the absolute biggest guy in the NFL. Hmmmm.

The graphics thing was in general, it was a lead up to the other comment regarding whiners. This forum is just moderately anti-Crysis 2, the forums at MyCrysis where I have been doing bug reports is sickening. I feel ashamed I am a PC-gamer.

Listen I can't make you blown away or not, thats for you to decide. You did say I didn't explain why I think its stellar so I will just add some small things. I noticed some things while playing, and one of those was the level of destruction designed by hand is pure artwork. I used to mod/level design for CS beta and HL1 back in the day using Hammer. I got really into it and even released some MP_maps. I am nothing but an amateur, I know this, I have no illusions of grandeur, but these level designs with that level of detail is sick. Every brick, rock, cracked highway, building damage, sewer pipes, iron-reinforced concrete, was hand designed and I became overwhelmed thinking about how I would do it. The extremely non-static backgrounds, building-scapes looked vibrant and alive with fire, smoke, real-time lighting and damage. The sunshaft/lighting is very bright vibrant and very realistic. That was what really got my attention, I was impressed with how much work they put in this game.

By cookie cutter I mean it is it's just "set piece" after "set piece" with some cut scenes. Go from point A with a bunch of crap AI, to another section with another bunch of crap AI just standing there waiting for you to kill them. No need for tactics. It plays like every other console FPS released since Modern Warfare without the constant respawning enemies.
This is a linear FPS. You have different objectives (that vary a little bit) but the levels are linear. The game is linear. Crysis 1 is known for its very open environments: I know, big tropical fruity island, but the real portion that most people forget is YOU had to go to set point A, you had to go to set point B. You had no choice if you wanted to play the story of the game. So in my opinion, Crysis 1 had the illusion of being opened design and there is no illusion here nor is it opened design. Key difference would be the local.

Set pieces / set points / tactics are all at the skill and disposal of the user, thats where FPS get their infinite replayability from, because how you handle it is unique every time you play it.

I don't think people saying the game sucks because it lacks DX11 and doesn't push hardware all that much is whining. It wasn't unreasonable to expect the game was going to take advantage of DX11 and decent system because they sort of hinted at it.
For every voice of reason, there are about 50 claiming this game is sh** because of the lack of Dx11 and for only that reason. Nobody has even seen this game in full Dx11 so we DON'T know how good, how bad, how slow, how fast, how shiny things will be. It was advertised and hyped as Dx11, but removed about the same time the beta leaked. We all suspected it wouldn't be at release. Dx11 does not make this game any better, it must stand on the merits of how it was released, and in my opinion it power kicked the front door down.

Quote:
Again you are entitled to YOUR opinion just as everyone else is. No need to ride the ass of someone who disagrees. You say it's stellar but give no reason to suggest that. How the hell anyone says it's stellar is beyond comprehension, but that's fine.
I didn't mean to sound like I was giving you specifically a hard time, people are perfectly entitled to their opinions. Some people don't like it, some people don't want to like it.

The game play (ignoring game breaking bugs) is tight and refined. Feels very fluid for me, I quickly adapted to the changes from Crysis 1, god knows I got used to them. If you don't like q and e as you primary power changer, big surprise, hold down the middle mouse button all the menus are still there.

The only major difference is the utilization of strength and speed. They are combined to the same one and are activated on situational basis. You can't grab an enemy unless you are next to him anyways, so why not keep armor up until you have physically grabbed him? From a logical stand point I follow almost all of the changes easily. Ones I feel a bit clunky are c4 and grenades, I wish they were standard buttons that I could use as opposed to weapon selections.

Quote:
You can honestly say Crytek didn't just borrow everything but the suit from Halo/CoD/Killzone and rename it Crysis 2? The game plays nothing like the first one.
Like I have said before, its a first person shooter, common elements can be found throughout the entire genre. Halo with its shield-to-health system. Call of Duty with its fast paced non-Unreal/Quake take on first person shooters, and Killzone for its unique setting and pretty graphics? One could say this about every great game that ever existed. In all forms of evolution, something has to start from something else. Crysis 2 feels like a first person shooter, it feels fresh story wise, the graphics and levels are extremely well done and intricate, the characters are fine, AI needs work of course (sometimes its really dumb, sometimes its really damn smart though), and the campaign was very captivating. I haven't gotten into multiplayer side of it at least not until I complete my second run through (which I may restart after the rumored Dx11 patch.)

The only major let down I have had so far with this game hasn't even been bugs or AI, but the community. Don't misunderstand me, this game is not the end-all, be-all, ever-was-all game of all time, but its definitely a 9/10 typical blockbuster.

Edit: Those bipedals are in suits, they are actually like octopuses. They live in liquid naturally... so how else would they get around in open air?

Steam sales figures are very rarely released. I'm pretty sure Steam alone will tip these numbers completely off. Regardless, Crysis 2 was pretty trashy and I blame that for its "poor" PC sales.
