A lot of people with full time jobs wouldn't either, they have bills to pay or other obligations that would prevent them from upgrading. If they released this super game then ironically they would lose a significant portion of PC players that cannot afford to upgrade their rig. Remember when the original came out and virtually no one could play it?
Now some of you might say that in 2-3 years when the rest of us upgrade we can play it and enjoy the graphics, but I know that I don't want to wait that long to play Crysis 2. I want to play it now. And I don't want to play on the lowest resolution missing out on all of the great beauty. It would also hurt their PC sales a lot more as less people would buy it during launch week or even within the first few months. The multiplayer would not even take off. At least with the new game all PC gamers get to enjoy good graphics at a reasonable frame rate. That is showing PC gamers love. Not making us shell out more money to update our rigs.
From a business perspective and a gamers perspective, they made the right decision.
Actually if Crysis 2 DID push the envelope like Crysis 1 did, you'd still have a GREAT game to play, that "should" have still been graphically superior even on Medium graphic settings. And your low end lappy would have handled it fine.
I played Crysis 1 on a 939 single core and a 7600GT as my first play through. I had to mod medium settings to make it work. Loved every minute of it. Upgraded to an 8800GT, and got DX9 High to run playable. Best thing ever!
From a BUSINESS perspective, yes they made the right choice. From a PC Gamer's perspective, they stabbed me in the back, and lied to me with every step they took.

Crysis 2 is using 99% of my gpu's, Crysis 1 was a piece of crap game that didnt care about multi gpu's at all... thats why it was making ur system look like crap, not because its THAT demanding, /sigh
If you don't like the game, don't buy it.... its perfectly fine for the time being, honestly, if you want graphics + shooter, wait for Battlefield 3
Warcraft 2 uses 99% of my GPU. What's your point?
Oh, and Crysis 1 didn't use Multi GPU setups? Really now? That's why the first ever rig to actually "max" Crysis and be playable, was a Q6600 with tri SLI 8800GTX's, right? Oh, but I guess those extra 2 8800's did no good right? Since it didn't use multi GPU setups?
You're confusing the wrong Crysis.
Crysis 2 can't use Crossfire properly, and supposedly doesn't work with SLI too well either.
And I hadn't planned on buying this "game". This is no more of a game to me than MW2 was. It's just another console port to add to the do not ever buy list, and don't bother wasting your bandwidth to torrent.
