Crysis 2 is number 1! - Page 7

Too much rage and bias in this thread. There are some people that can respectably voice their opinions on topics like this, and then there are the exaggerative idiots that have filled the internet, especially since the arguments given are usually extremely subjective or are found through very insignificant details. I feel like the latter has given people a false impression of what upsets people like me.

The arguments on DX11 are pointless; DX11 doesn't make the game; Crysis looks amazing even on DX9. Crysis 2 has been proven to have made graphical compromises, thus bringing the overall quality lower than the originals; half-sized textures being one of them. Crysis 2 still looks good, there's no doubt about that; but it's using the same type of "trickery" that allow games on consoles to look "better" as they sometimes do, like blurring, particle effects, etc.

I won't accept the argument that the game "finally runs well on most hardware." Crysis/Warhead still looked fantastic with lowered settings, and they sure as well could've done the same with Crysis 2. The current state of the game could've been set as a "medium" settings level for the rigs that can currently max it, with expanded "extreme" settings for those who have the hardware to run it more impressively, like myself. In that scenario, the majority still gets fantastic visuals, consoles can run it, and it feels like a proper successor in the graphics department.

Crysis 2 is, in fact, linear compared to the originals. There's little to no room for being imaginative in encounters. It's almost claustrophobic; all of the "battles" are in comparatively tiny areas.

Fun factor? You can't even argue this; it's entirely subjective. Here's my take. I played through the originals a few weeks before Crysis 2 was released. This past Monday, I started up on C2, and finished it by Wednesday. The first 2/3 or so was fairly boring. In that last chunk, things started to get interesting, but the AI was dumb enough to make it a cake-walk with improved stealth. The game also started to get the illusion that it looked better, probably because of the alien models and abundance of shine effects. The end was fairly abrubt and lackluster; not even a challenge. As far as the nanosuit goes, it's more streamlined, sure, but extremely dumbed down compared to the firsts; there's no challenge in properly managing modes anymore. It was still crazy in its own sense, mindless in a way, so I had a bit of fun.

I would take the originals over this any day. Very little freedom, not-as-good graphics (notice how I didn't say poor graphics?), dumbed down control scheme, etc.

There are my thoughts, take it how you will.

EDIT: Forgot to mention multiplayer. It's somewhat fun, and a change of pace from BC2; but it feels like CoD, as much as I hate making that comparison, and CoD just isn't all that for me. It feels like a lot of suit mode abuse, and very little in the way of tactics; it has essentially been "first one to shoot wins." It's something I might fire up once in a while, but not consistently.

EDIT2: Also, on the topic of the originals, it takes a different approach to appreciate the first games. At first, from what I had heard, I took it as essentially a tech demo; I started seeing the game in a new light a while later, and NanosuitNinja's videos on YouTube convinced me that I had played it all wrong. I definitely wasn't one of the people that hated on Crysis and suddenly changed my opinion. I regard it as one of the better games ever released on the PC.

Remember that your figures do not include any sales made from Steam. I doubt they include other online purchases(CD keys, amazon, play.com etc). Your chart is also from week 1, this is the second week Crysis 2 is on top.

Didn't I tell you haters to fall back?

I agree to some degree. Texture quality went down, but effects overall look much better and lighting too. Nevertheless, they achieved this all with DX9 without making excuses like many other devs do, when it comes down to supporting, implementing some features in their products.

justin bieber's baby is the most watched video on youtube. That does not make it in any way good, or better than other music.

What was your point again?

Crysis 2 is a cr ap game, just like Avp3 (but i still love avp3 because i'm a anboy of aliens). If both of those games were only made for PC they would be probably greater. I'm sorry but consoles are not made for FPS games o.O They just sucks at FPP like Crysis, AvP and I will don't even count Unreal Tournament x_X That kind of games requires quick respond from the player, I mean mouse+keyboard is all what we need, not a stupid game pad :/ I can use my game pad to play Croc 2 or Mortal Combat 4 for PC :/ Not for f.... FPS!

Edit: I forgot. We have most advanced platform on the market. Most advenced physics system than on consoles, graphics, audio, and even gameplay, so why the hell they just didn't make any good FPS in few last years? (Besides L4D, UT3 and upcoming BF3) or any good racing game like forza or GT5? On PC it will looks much better, physx would be better, audio etc. ****... it's f.... annoying me...

Point is, you're exactly the opposite to fanboys and that puts you in the same barn as them.

No matter what people say, game is built upon a decent engine - no one can argue about that.
